I can drop either cable from 2nd floor to basement. Longer phone cord results in modem by computer. Longer Ethernet - modem in basement. Does it make much difference with performance? Modem in basement will be challenging to troubleshoot if/when needed. Thank you.|||What! NO phone jack in basement?

IF you are going to be troubleshooting the modem frequently, longer phone cord.|||Run a longer ethernet cable. You could very well get signal/speed issues by having a long phone cable, the DSL is different than a phone where you can have a long cord.
