Can I use ATT Uverse box without some sort of activation?

If I buy an ATT Cable box from ebay, or some other source. Can I wire it into a splitter via coax cable and use it? Or is there some sort of activation on the box that forces me to contact ATT about it?|||Hate to agree with the other post, but you are better off not buying an AT%26amp;T U-Verse Set Top Box/Receiver/Cable Box from anyone other then AT%26amp;T themselves. It will be 55 dollars for a technician to come out and install it and be 7 dollars a month added onto your current bill. You may get a nice person that will waive the installation fee for the box but they probably won't be able to.

Just don't fall for anyone trying to sell you a box outside of AT%26amp;T because it is not a legitimate purchase and the help desk at AT%26amp;T won't be able to get it working for you.|||You cannot buy them, for they were not sold by the provider or manufacturer to end users.

Any box sombebody has is a non-returned rental/lease box which they have to right to sell you.

Should you buy a box, it will probably need to be activated and married to your account, which the provider will most liekly simply refuse to do.
