I have uverse, when I try to record on my dvd recorder, a window opens and says, can't record, copywrited.?

I've always recorder off HBOetc. Now I can only record regular channels. Is there anyway I can get around this copywrite.|||There are certain channels (Smithsonian is one) that are plainly identified in the guide as not permitted for recording. If any channel is not so marked in the guide, you should be able to record it on the DVR. If you are getting the "copywrited" warning, you're not on one of the channels plainly marked as not-recordable (like Smithsonian), and you're only recording it in the normal manner via the U-Verse DVR, something isn't right. Call customer service, 800-288-2020. Give them the specific program name, time, and channel that exhibited the problem.

Per the other answer, recording via a DVR does not violate copyright laws because the recording does not leave the DVR and it's eventually deleted. The violation occurs if you make an off-line copy of the recording and give or sell it to another party.|||Not that is discussable here, because we respect copyrights here.

Copy protection is used, from a business standpoint, to protect DVD sales, becasue your subscription to the channel on a TV service, really is not an entitlement to a permanent copy of recordings.
