Can I plug a Uverse router into an ethernet jack and get wifi?

I need wifi for a place without any but it has ethernet. Can i plug the Uverse router into a ethernet jack and get FREE wifi?|||You can plug it in and it will work (presuming the router has WiFi). It will cost whatever it costs to get internet over the cable connection.
